Thank You, Soccer: Why I Launched MoFutbol.tv

XFacebookLinkedIn

To the soccer and football community:

I want to take a moment to thank you for all the support you have shown me throughout the past four years, beginning with the launch of MoFutbolTV under “MusaSeka.”

I also want to explain why I launched MoFutbol.tv.

Soccer has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. I was fortunate to play at the grassroots level and briefly as an academy player. However, injuries from judo—my original first love—eventually made it clear that I would not be able to continue pursuing soccer at that level.

There is another part of the story that I do not discuss often: I did not always have the discipline or mentality required to reach my goal of playing at the college or professional level.

Like many people, I eventually turned my attention toward school and a career that did not directly align with the sport that helped shape who I am today.

When my family first moved to Canada, soccer was not the most accessible sport for me, and I found it difficult to find a club. As a result, I spent most of my time practicing judo. When we moved to Kansas City in 2002, during my junior year of high school, I initially did not play soccer. I later had the opportunity to play varsity soccer at North Kansas City High School. It was an amazing experience that gave me lifelong brothers.

Still, without the dedication, obsession, or a club team to keep me connected to the game—and with my family still unfamiliar with the system—soccer gradually faded from the center of my life. I moved toward the business world instead.

I attended a few Kansas City Wizards matches in MLS, but, as a typical “Euro snob” at the time, the product on the field did not keep me connected to the league.

Fast-forward to 2023, when St. Louis CITY SC launched in St. Louis. It felt as though the childhood joy of supporting a local team had returned. I began creating GIFs and short videos to celebrate the club’s successful first season. As I became more deeply connected to the team and its community, I created more content and built relationships with other soccer and football sickos like me.

As I transition from being only a fan to becoming a contributor, I want to use my network of friends and soccer experts to create opportunities for people who are too often left out of important conversations.

Soccer is not just a sport. It builds confidence, social skills, discipline, work ethic, community, and so much more. I hope I can play a small part in helping others experience those benefits.

That is why MoFutbol.tv is my new project: a place where I can bring all of these experiences together, share them with the world, and hopefully help someone navigate this crazy life in the same way soccer helped me.

This is for the next kid searching for a place in soccer. It is for the people who do not always receive the same opportunities, visibility, access, or support as others.

I want to thank the entire #AllForCITY community for making me feel welcome. I also want to thank the CITY organization for its support, opportunities, and access. None of it is taken for granted.

What began as a hobby has led to recognition from clubs, conferences, and pioneers across U.S. soccer. That is a blessing.

There have also been experiences I wish had gone differently, but that is part of being human. Not everyone will have your best interests at heart. Even so, I remain grateful for the journey, the lessons, and the people who continue to believe in what MoFutbol.tv can become.

Thank you, soccer. Thank you, St. Louis. And thank you to everyone helping this vision grow.

“Soccer is not just a sport. It builds confidence, social skills, discipline, work ethic, community, and so much more.”
